From Katie Sorensen, MSPAS, PA-C and founder:
Thanks for visiting and I hope you can find what you are looking for. I’d like to tell you a little bit about myself. I’ve been a physician assistant (associate) or “PA” for 14 years. I began my PA career in surgery with a variety of specialties through the years including surgical oncology, breast surgery, bariatric surgery, trauma, and overall general surgery. My role has been taking excellent care of patients in the operating room including an extensive first assist role, rounding on patients in the hospital, and providing care to patients before and after surgery in the clinical setting. Along with all of this I’ve been a passionate educator for PA and medical students for years. In 2020 I felt this pull towards practicing a more health-focused, root-cause approach to healthcare, which didn’t always feel aligned in my day to day duties in conventional medicine. I spent a lot of time reading books and listening to podcasts until I decided to make this passion more official. I began taking classes at the Institute For Functional Medicine and was able to discover the path to true health. As I dug deeper into functional medicine I definitely knew this was my pivotal path as the “second half” of my PA career.
Since that time I’ve completed 7 modules through the Institute for Functional Medicine including:
Applying Functional Medicine in Clinical Practice
Bioenergetics (formerly Energy) Advanced Practice Module
Cardiometabolic Advanced Practice Module
Environmental Health (formerly Detox) Advanced Practice Module
GI Advanced Practice Module
Hormone Advanced Practice Module
Immune Advanced Practice Module
I have also spent clinical time working with PA and MD in Integrative and functional medicine in the Twin cities area. My goal is to become officially “IFMCP certified” in 2025.
I believe my hands-on experience in surgery has given me a unique edge in functional medicine by providing a deep understanding of how the body operates mechanically, which complements my current focus on systemic, root-cause treatments. This combination offers a distinct perspective that can help to influence patient outcomes. My desire is to help keep you OUT of the world of chronic diseases and living in and out of doctor visits and hospitals as you age.
I can’t wait to meet you and help you feel your best so you can BE your BEST self!
-Katie
Welcome to Tru Superior Functional Medicine
I am also a busy wife and mom to three kids. I know lifestyle changes can be tough when you have a family to care for and feed also. I absolutely keep this in mind when we’re working on changes together.
I also use my family as my ongoing motivation. I want to be healthy, fit, and energized to continue keeping up with my kids. I want to always have the ability to go hiking, biking, swimming, ice staking, and skiing with them. I love to teach them about healthy eating, nutrition, the power of movement and exercise, and the wonderful health benefits of being outdoors. I pride myself in keeping my family healthy by following a functional medicine approach to their health.
